Oceanside
An Oceanside parent, upset about his eighth-grade son not being allowed to go on a school field trip to Disneyland, allegedly attacked the vice principal of Lincoln Junior High School earlier this week.
Simanu Unutoa was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and battery to a school official Monday afternoon after he allegedly kicked and punched Fernando Martinez, acting vice principal of the school on California Street.
Unutoa’s son had been one of 22 students not allowed to go on the field trip because of “unsatisfactory academic or behavioral progress,” school officials said.
Martinez suffered facial cuts and deep pains in the side, but returned to work Wednesday, school officials said. Unutoa was released on bail.
“I look upon it as an uncharacteristic and isolated occurrence at that campus,” said school district spokesman Dan Armstrong. “The attack by a parent on a school official is an unprecedented event in our district.”
