Corey Pavin parred the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to beat Steve Pate and win the Atlanta Classic in a battle of former UCLA players Sunday at Marietta, Ga.

“I can’t remember winning a golf tournament without a birdie on the last 10 holes,†Pavin said. “I just happened to be the last one standing today.â€

Pavin and Pate tied with 16-under-par 272 totals on the rain-soaked Atlanta Country Club course and each parred the first playoff hole--the 10th.

They then went to the 206-yard, par-three 16th, where Pavin’s tee shot was 30 feet away and Pate’s caught the bunker.

Pate came out of the trap over the green on the fringe and then came up 10 feet short on his par putt.

“I never thought I’d lose until reality set in when I had a 10-footer for bogey on the second playoff hole,†Pate said.

Pavin had a final-round 70, and Pate, starting the round seven shots behind Tom Kite, had a bogey-free round of 66.

Hollis Stacy ended a six-year victory drought with three consecutive back-nine birdies as she shot a three-under-par 69 to win an LPGA event at Chesapeake, Va., by one stroke over Tammie Green, Elaine Crosby and Patty Sheehan.

Stacy wound up with a six-under 282 total for the 72 holes on the Greenbrier Country Club’s 6,412-yard layout. Green, Sheehan and Crosby all finished at 283. Sheehan closed with a 69, Green a 73 and Crosby a 74.

Chi Chi Rodriguez sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the fourth playoff hole to beat Jim Colbert and win the Reunion Pro-Am at Frisco, Tex., for his second consecutive Senior Tour victory.

Rodriguez shot five-under 67 at Stonebriar Country Club for a 54-hole total of 208. Colbert shot 68 with four birdies on the last 10 holes.

Beth Daniel won the Konica Cup World Ladies Golf Tournament at Inagi, Japan, for the second consecutive year and the third time overall, with a 10-stroke victory. Daniel shot a 70 in the final round for a tournament total of 10-under 278.
