** Surface, “3 Deep,” Columbia. Surface is aptly named: Despite the album’s title, there’s nothing deep here. The comfy, cozy sweetness of this trio’s blandly pretty fare--including the recent No, 1 pop single “The First Time”--is often appealing. But since none of Surface’s songs dig into love’s messier layers or emotional depths, in the end they’re far from compelling.
