Agoura’s Stelle Sets Swim Mark

Jason Stelle of Agoura High set a Southern Section divisional record in the 100-meter backstroke in the 4-A Division championship meet Friday night at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.

Stelle, a senior who will attend USC, finished in 49.62 seconds. He bested longtime rival and defending 4-A champion Thomas Wescott of Huntington Beach, who finished second in 49.94.

Stelle, the 2-A titlist in the 100-meter backstroke last year, placed second in the 200 individual medley in 1 minute 50.82 seconds, one-tenth of a second off the winning time.
