Two documentary films by independent producer-director Jeff Spitz, a former Beverly Hills High football player, will be shown on KCET-TV (Channel 28) in May.
“Race and Racism,” in which African-Americans, Native-Americans and Asian-Americans relate stories of racism that they have encountered, will be seen at 10 p.m. Tuesday on the program “The 90s.” “From the Bottom Up,” about grass-roots rebuilding efforts in poor neighborhoods from the South Bronx to Texas, will be broadcast at 10:30 p.m. May 20.
Spitz, 32, is a graduate of UCLA and holds a master’s degree from the University of Chicago. He received an Emmy award for his film about Chicago’s Roosevelt University, called “The Roosevelt Experiment: An Integrated College in a Segregated City.” He has been a Chicago resident since 1983.
Pepperdine tennis player Anna Brunstrom graduated as valedictorian of a senior class of more than 450 students. A native of Sweden, Brunstrom had a cumulative grade-point average of 3.93 on a four-point scale. She majored in computer science and mathematics and will attend the College of William and Mary graduate school on a scholarship.
