The Beverly Hills City Council honored actor, director and producer George Montgomery for his donation of an estimated $60,000 worth of desert plants, which the city has installed at the Civic Center.
The 50-year veteran of Hollywood donated the plants after growing them at a residence in the San Fernando Valley. On Tuesday night, the council voted by proclamation to declare the date--May 7, 1991--George Montgomery Day in Beverly Hills.
Montgomery may also be asked to make another sculpture garden for the city. He showed the council examples of his cowboy-influenced “heroic” sculptures and offered his services. Afterward, Councilman Bernard J. Hecht said: “We’re willing to take up your offer.”
