Ventura County Supervisor Maria VanderKolk will be among several speakers featured at a fund-raiser in Agoura on Saturday, the proceeds of which will be used to raise public awareness about the proposed Jordan Ranch development and its potential effects on Cheeseboro Canyon.
Joining VanderKolk will be Thousand Oaks City Councilwoman Elois Zeanah and actor Dick Van Dyke, whose son, Barry, lives in the canyon area.
The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the canyon entrance off Chesebro Road in Agoura Hills, said Brad Childs, executive director for the Wilderness Institute, a nonprofit environmental group helping to sponsor the fund-raiser. Other sponsors include the California Native Plant Society, Save Open Space, the Ventura County Environmental Coalition, the Las Virgenes Homeowners Federation and the Old Agoura Homeowners Assn.
“We just want people to get an overall view of the issues . . . to be better informed, so they can make their own decision,” Childs said.
