WORLD IN BRIEF : SOUTH AFRICA : De Klerk, Mandela Start Trips Abroad

President Frederik W. de Klerk and African National Congress leader Nelson Mandela left on separate foreign trips to seek support for their differing policies. Both will visit Britain to deliver opposing messages on South Africa’s progress in ending apartheid. De Klerk will also visit Ireland and Denmark seeking renewed foreign investment. Mandela, in visits to London and Tokyo, is expected to urge continued economic sanctions.
