Plan to Oust Topless Bar Weighed
The Hawthorne City Council asked City Atty. Michael Adamson to research possible future eminent domain proceedings against a topless bar on Imperial Highway.
The action came Monday after a resident complained that the establishment attracts unsavory characters to the neighborhood.
The bar, Bare Elegance, is in an area that was part of the city of Los Angeles before Hawthorne annexed it in 1987.
Councilman Steven Andersen said pre-existing businesses in the annexation parcel cannot be arbitrarily shut down. However, the nightclub is in an area that is being reviewed for community redevelopment and possibly could be ejected through eminent domain procedures, council members said. The council directed Adamson to research the matter.
