HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Lions Baseball Tournament Canceled

For only the second time in 41 years and the first since 1958, the annual Lions/Mike Morrow baseball tournament has been canceled.
Tournament Manager Wayne DeBate said Tuesday that wet conditions throughout the county forced the cancellation of the annual spring vacation tournament. Three days of round-robin play was supposed to have started Monday and the semifinals and finals were scheduled for Thursday.
No games were played Monday or Tuesday.
“It’s unfortunate,” DeBate said. “We put a lot of time and effort into getting ready for the tournament. But it’s just too wet. Some coaches are reporting that their fields are completely submerged, and they wouldn’t be ready for days.”
In what is annually the largest baseball tournament of the season, 46 schools were entered in three divisions, including defending champions Sweetwater (AAA Division), Torrey Pines (AA) St. Augustine (A).
