The Model Shop (TMC Monday at 8 a.m.) In this observant and poetic 1969 film, the late Jacques Demy finds the cafe entertainer heroine (Anouk Aimee) of his first film, “Lola” (1960), adrift and defeated, reluctantly yielding herself to a restless younger man (Gary Lockwood) facing the draft. Los Angeles, which Demy knew well, became a gritty foil for his lyricism.

The Sleeping Car Murders (A&E; Monday at noon, again at 1 a.m.) Costa-Gavras made his 1965 feature directorial debut with this terrific, high-style French thriller-on-a-train starring Simone Signoret and Yves Montand.

Stroszek (Bravo Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.) Werner Herzog’s quirky 1977 fable follows a little old man (Clement Scheitz), his young tenant (Bruno S.), a true innocent, and his hooker girl friend (Eva Mattes) from West Germany to rural Wisconsin. (Edited)

La Lectrice (Bravo Thursday at 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.) Michel Deville’s subtle 1989 fable stars Miou-Miou as a reader-for-hire whose innocent-seeming profession leads her into playing teacher, parent, sex-therapist and even revolutionary.
