COSTA MESA — A man who allegedly tried to break into an apartment was in critical condition Saturday after being shot in self-defense by the apartment dweller, police said.
Lejjena Lejjena, 28, of Costa Mesa was wounded in the shoulder and suffered a punctured lung Friday night in the 1000 block of El Camino Drive, Lt. Sam Cordiro said.
Another suspect, identified by authorities as Hermios Kibin Jr., 24, also of Costa Mesa, was shot in the leg but fled.
The two men allegedly shattered a window and were attempting to climb into the apartment when Jose Hernandez, 21, fired five shots “in self-defense,” Cordiro said.
