Baby Dies After Car Smashes Into Pole; 6 Injured

A 1-year-old girl was killed Saturday afternoon when the car in which she was riding with the driver and five other passengers ran into a telephone pole in Southeast San Diego, police said.
The accident occurred at 2:28 p.m. at San Jacinto Drive and Olvera Avenue. No other vehicles were involved.
Two of the injured passengers were taken to Paradise Valley Hospital, where the girl died; two were taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital; two to Mercy Hospital, and one to UC San Diego Medical Center, said a spokesman for the San Diego Police Department.
The baby’s name was not released.
A 6-year-old girl was taken to Children’s Hospital, where she was admitted for observation, a spokeswoman said. Michette Johnson, 23, was admitted to Sharp Memorial Hospital for observation, according to a spokeswoman there.
Two other children were taken to Mercy Hospital and released, their injuries not considered serious.
Ladonna Singleton, 24, was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where she was treated for multiple trauma, a spokeswoman said. She was listed in fair condition Saturday night.
