A contract for 20 new bus shelters with lighted advertising was approved Wednesday by the City Council.
The contract includes the maintenance and cleaning of the city’s current 75 bus shelters plus the new shelters and an additional 20 concrete benches.
The city will receive a minimum revenue of $40 per shelter from the advertising solicited by Bustop Shelters of California Inc. and will have some space set aside for community service announcements.
The new contract will save the city $64,162 a year for bus shelter maintenance, said Ralph J. Nunez, administrative assistant. There is no cost to the city for the new shelters.
