ROUNDUP : CSUN Continues Mastery of Oregon State in Softball
Kim Oakes’ two-run single in the sixth inning padded Cal State Northridge’s three-run lead en route to a 5-0 victory over Oregon State in the first round of pool play in the PONY college softball tournament Wednesday at Cal State Fullerton.
Cami Allen (7-8) scattered five hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter to earn her third victory in a row. Freshman Jen Fleming went two for three as the Matadors (22-17) posted their fourth victory over Oregon State in as many meetings.
The Matadors will play Fresno State, ranked No. 2 in the country, today at 11 a.m.
HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
University 3, Montclair Prep 0: University pitcher Jeff Mejia struck out three, walked one and allowed just two hits in shutting out the Mounties at University. Osman Kahn (0-2) took the loss.
HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Grant d. Birmingham, 15-17, 15-10, 15-13, 7-15, 15-12--Grant and Birmingham battled for nearly three hours in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Birmingham.
Three players had more than 20 kills for Birmingham (5-1, 2-1 in conference play) in a losing effort. Stan Yu had 29 kills, Alex Diaz 23 and Hye Kwon 21. Grant is 3-0 in conference play.
Chatsworth d. Reseda, 15-8, 14-16, 15-2, 15-5--Gene Urcan had 18 kills and Yoshi Minagawa added 16 for Chatsworth (2-3, 1-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.
Granada Hills d. Kennedy, 15-11, 15-8, 7-15, 15-5--Danny Asaoka and Randy Eason had 11 and 10 kills for Granada Hills (5-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy.
Cleveland d. El Camino Real, 8-15, 15-1, 15-4, 15-6--Loc Tran had 11 kills to lead the Cavaliers in Northwest Valley Conference match at El Camino Real.
Canoga Park d. Sylmar, 15-7, 15-4, 12-15, 15-5--Adam Clint had 10 kills to pace Canoga Park (3-2, 3-0) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference win. Paul Bond had 13 kills for visiting Sylmar (1-3, 0-2).
Van Nuys d. Poly, 15-4, 15-6, 15-9--Van Nuys (4-1, 3-0) cleared the bench in the third game of a Valley Pac-8 Conference match against winless Poly. Brad Schultz had 11 kills and seven blocks for Van Nuys.
Bishop Diego d. Calabasas, 15-9, 17-15, 13-15, 15-6--Cameron LaBrache had 12 kills and six blocks and Andrew McFadden added five blocks for Calabasas (4-4).
Taft d. North Hollywood, 12-15, 15-6, 15-9, 15-6--Amman Catalan had 14 kills and teammate Casey Sheahan added 13 to lead the Toreadors (3-3) in a nonleague match at North Hollywood.
Glendale d. Long Beach Millikan, 15-3, 16-14, 15-4--Jason Parkin had 10 kills to lead the Dynamiters (5-1) in a nonleague match at Glendale.
