Oklahoma Reaches NIT Semifinals, 83-74
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Bryan Sallier scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half as Oklahoma advanced to the National Invitation Tournament semifinals with an 83-74 victory over Providence Wednesday night.
Oklahoma (19-14), with six points from Sallier early in the half, went on a 16-4 run to pull ahead 58-44 at 13:22.
Providence got into foul trouble early, sending Oklahoma into the bonus at 14:12, and Sallier capitalized on it, scoring six of his second-half points on free throws.
Providence (19-13) could get no closer than three points at 60-57 with 10 minutes left.
Providence shot 33% from the field, and guard Eric Murdock scored only 15 points, well below his 25.9 average.
