William Beard scored 699.1 out of a possible 709 to win the gold medal for the United States in the men’s free rifle prove event at the World Cup USA at Chino. Bearn also had a minimum qualifying score that will allow him to try out for the 1992 Olympic team.
Deena Wigger of Colorado Springs was second in the women’s standard rifle three-position. Valentina Chertasoua of the Soviet Union won the event.
