A Lake Elsinore man who may have fallen asleep while driving was found dead off Ortega Highway early Monday, authorities said.
Bruce John Kiyuna, 34, left work at 3 a.m. and was driving east on the highway near Caspers Regional Park when “he apparently lost control” of his 1985 Honda Civic, California Highway Patrol Officer Ken Daily said. Kiyuna was found partially beneath the overturned car.
“We think he fell asleep,” Daily said. “He drifted to the wrong side of the road and over-corrected himself back to the other side.”
There were no witnesses to the accident, but Daily said police believe that the car rolled over repeatedly, and Kiyuna, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected.
Kiyuna, a Southern California Edison employee, was pronounced dead at the scene. Daily said the accident was not alcohol-related.
