I would like to thank ABC publicly for canceling three of the five television shows I watch (“Cheers” and “L.A. Law,” NBC, being the remaining two).
By removing “China Beach,” “Twin Peaks” and “thirtysomething,” three of the most intelligent, well-written, well-acted and highly acclaimed shows on television, ABC has allowed me to spend more time away from the TV, living life rather than letting it pass me by. These three shows compelled me to watch or tape them every week and now, at last, I’m free from their hypnotic grip.
In fact, I’m feeling so free of television that I’m planning to boycott any and all local and national news that ABC, or its affiliates, has to offer.
Until, of course, “China Beach,” “Twin Peaks” and “thirtysomething” come back on the air.
Andrew Shrader, Los Angeles
(Editor’s note: “Twin Peaks” and “thirtysomething” are currently on hiatus. “Twin Peaks” will return Thursday March 28 at 9 p.m.)
