In other Empire League games:
Katella 13, Loara 5--Jeff Reed allowed seven hits, struck out 12, walked one and hit two batters for visiting Katella (5-3, 1-1). Reed also had a two-run home run in the fourth ining and drove in three runs. Mike Gargano had two-run homer in the first for Loara (4-4, 0-1).
Cypress 17, Los Alamitos 7--In a game that featured 20 walks, Ken Fann had three hits and four RBIs for host Cypress (2-5, 1-0), which had 16 hits.
In the Century League:
Canyon 3, El Modena 1--Greg Tippin hit a two-run home run in the first and a bases-empty homer in the third, and Matt Wood (3-0) had nine strikeouts and one walk for host Canyon (4-2-1, 1-0).
Foothill 10, Orange 3--Neil Garcia had three hits, including a bases-empty home run in the sixth, scored three runs and drove in two for visiting Foothill (3-4, 1-0). John Scardino (1-0) pitched a three-hitter, striking out nine and walking none, and Jason Blcek had two hits and three RBIs for Foothill.
Villa Park 4, Santa Ana Valley 1--Danny Strapp (1-1) pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts for host Villa Park (3-4, 1-0). The junior right-hander allowed a single in the fifth and a triple in the seventh.
Jason Martin had two hits and shortstop Aaron Boone had a hit and three stolen bases and scored two runs. He also had seven assists.
In the Freeway League:
Sunny Hills 14, Sonora 0--Chris Looney (1-2) struck out nine in six innings for host Sunny Hills (4-3, 1-0). Looney had a home run and a triple, scored three runs and drove in four, and Rick Orr had two hits, three RBIs and scored three runs.
Troy 13, Fullerton 2--Troy had 14 hits, including one by each starter, at Fullerton. Brent Lacher had a two-run home run in the first, and Brent Coon added a bases-empty home run the third for the Warriors (2-1, 1-0). Guy Pinelli (2-0) pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.
La Habra 1, Buena Park 0--Scott Veeder (2-1) pitched a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for visiting La Habra (3-2, 1-0). Mark Picco had a sacrifice fly to score Josh Marshall with the winning run in the seventh.
In the Orange League:
Brea-Olinda 6, Anaheim 2--Keith Miller had two hits and two RBIs, and Mike Ryan had two hits and an RBI for host Brea-Olinda (4-3, 1-0). Tim Carman (2-0) pitched 5 2/3 innings for the victory.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Estancia 2, Laguna Beach 0--Estancia scored two unearned runs in the second inning in a game at Laguna Beach that was delayed three times by rain.
Laguna Hills 7, Century 0--Matt Maffei and Brian Kessler combined for a one-hitter at Laguna Hills. Ted Wilkes and Maffei each hit two-run home run for Laguna Hills (3-3, 1-0).
In the Sea View League:
Tustin 14, University 1--Bill Courtney pitched a three-hitter and struck out 12 and Brett Hardy and Nick Cantu each had two hits and scored three runs for the host Tillers (4-2, 1-0).
In nonleague play:
Garden Grove Claremont 13, Van Horn 0--Chad Volovick (1-0) allowed three hits in four innings before the game was called because of the mercy rule.
Santa Ana 7, Bolsa Grande 1--Joey Martinez (1-0) pitched four innings for the victory for visiting Santa Ana (4-2). Mike Estrada had a two-run triple in the sixth to give Santa Ana a 6-1 lead. Bolsa Grande is 1-3.
Santa Ana Calvary Chapel 14, Pacific Christian 10--Matt Herr two hits, including a triple with the bases loaded, and drove in five runs for Calvary Chapel (3-0) at TeWinkle Park in Costa Mesa.
