Baldwin Park : Security Bar Ban May End

The City Council plans to lift the ban on exterior security bars on industrial buildings because of rising crime in the city.
The ban was enacted in commercial and industrial zones in 1987 for aesthetic reasons, because the bars were thought to give an unpleasant impression of Baldwin Park.
But council members said Wednesday that the law should be rewritten to allow bars on industrial buildings and directed the city’s Planning Commission to draft a new ordinance.
Councilman Bobbie W. Izell said his home and businesses have been broken into repeatedly over the past 18 months. He suggested that security bars should be mandatory.
