It took a wild, heart-stopping, final six seconds, but the Christian High girls’ basketball team managed to hold on to a 43-40 victory over Strathmore High.
With the Division V semifinal victory Thursday at Strathmore, Christian advanced to its first Southern California Regional championship Saturday at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Tiffany Stutz had a game-high 27 points and Stacey Patsko a game-high 19 rebounds, but it was Elana Flor’s only two points of the game that sealed the victory with two seconds left.
Leading 41-39, with six seconds left, Christian’s Diana DeGrenier missed a free throw, and Strathmore’s Melissa Hernandez came down with the rebound. Fouled with four seconds left and a chance to tie, Hernandez made only one of two.
