COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Saddleback Beats OCC With Three in 10th
Saddleback scored three runs--two unearned--in the top of the 10th inning to defeat Orange Coast, 4-1, in an Orange Empire Conference game Thursday at Orange Coast.
The Gauchos’ Brad Porter scored from first on a sacrifice by Lou Benbow that losing pitcher Duane Page (0-2) threw away for a three-base error.
Benbow scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Brian Walker. Buster Nietzke, who drove in the tying run for Saddleback (7-9, 1-4) in the seventh, scored the final run from second on a throwing error by second baseman Steve Hernandez.
Zak Krislock (2-3) allowed seven singles in 10 innings for Saddleback. Orange Coast is 11-7-1 and 1-4.
In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:
Golden West 7, Fullerton 2--Derek Ogle pitched a five-hitter and had 10 strikeouts for Golden West. Ogle (3-1) didn’t allow a hit after the fourth inning. Jason White had three hits, scored twice and had three runs batted in. Ben Mendoza had three hits and scored three times. Brian Mena hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning and also had a sacrifice-fly RBI for host Golden West (8-7, 3-1).
Rancho Santiago 4, Riverside 1--Mark Wasikowski had two hits including a bases-empty home run in the ninth inning for Rancho Santiago (18-3, 5-0).
In nonconference baseball:
Cypress 8, Ricks College (Idaho) 5--Matt Wilson and Monte Jones each had three hits and two RBIs for host Cypress. Doug McConathy had a two-run home run in the third inning for Cypress (12-4).
In Orange Empire Conference softball:
Orange Coast 1, Golden West 0--In the continuation of a game that was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning Monday because of rain, the Pirates held on to their lead. Alisha Nelson (8-5), who allowed seven hits, got the victory for the Pirates (10-8, 2-1).
