Campaign finance statements released Thursday show that Republican state Senate candidate Dana Reed has raised more money than at least one of his leading competitors--Assemblyman John R. Lewis (R-Orange).

Reed reported that he has raised $151,012 for the special election ordered by Gov. Pete Wilson to replace former state Sen. John Seymour of Anaheim, whom Wilson appointed as his replacement to the U.S. Senate in January.

Lewis’ campaign reported that it has raised $115,225.

Finance reports for other candidates in the race--including Assembly members Doris Allen (R-Anaheim) and Nolan Frizzelle (R-Huntington Beach)--were not available Thursday.

Reed’s total bankroll included more than $31,000 that he has loaned to his campaign. Lewis’ war chest has received $10,000 in loans. Reed, an Orange County Transportation Commission member, also reported that $14,818 in cash remains in his campaign coffers, while Lewis has $24,003.

The election is scheduled for March 19. Seymour’s 35th Senate District includes Anaheim, Orange, Costa Mesa, Westminster and Tustin.
