An elderly woman who claimed that her two sons abandoned her in Rosemead was in the care of the county Thursday, and authorities were looking for her relatives.
Lucia Ayala, 91, was found Wednesday wandering in Rosemead and was unable to tell sheriff’s deputies where she lived or how to contact her kin, Deputy Rich Erickson said. Speaking through a Spanish interpreter, she was unable or unwilling to give much information beyond saying that her sons had left her in Rosemead, he said.
Officials distributed her picture to news media, hoping a relative would contact them. She was being housed at County-USC Medical Center, he said.
