PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP : San Clemente Advances in Loara Tournament
Mark Grayshock had a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to tie the score and was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to force home the winning run for San Clemente in a 4-3 victory over Villa Park in a second-round game of the Loara Tournament Tuesday in San Clemente.
Doug De La Garza came on in relief and pitched three scoreless innings for the victory for San Clemente (2-0). Dan Strapp of Villa Park (1-1) hit a two-run home run and one with the bases empty for Villa Park (1-1).
In other championship-round games:
Dana Hills 9, El Dorado 1--Tim Wolter had three hits and five RBIs, including a two-run home run, for visiting Dana Hills (2-0). Ryan Delfs hit a three-run home run in the first for Dana Hills.
Fountain Valley 3, Lakewood 1--Derek Fahs pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for host Fountain Valley (2-0).
Servite 10, Ocean View 2--Steve Sandoval pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and hit a three-run home run for visiting Servite (2-0).
Santiago 6, Savanna 3--Enele Scanlan pitched the final two innings for the save and had a two-run home run in the fourth for Santiago (4-0).
In the consolation round:
La Quinta 3, Western 0--Walter Dawkins (1-0) pitched four innings and Steve Lemmons three for the shutout for host La Quinta (1-1).
Loara 3, Riverside North 0--Aaron France had a double and a triple for Loara (1-1).
Irvine 11, Los Amigos 3--Mark Huffman, Ryan Jones, Aron Garcia and Loc Tran had two hits each for host Irvine (1-1).
Kennedy 16, Cypress 1--Visiting Kennedy (1-1) took advantage of 11 walks and four Cypress errors.
Pacifica 5, Newbury Park 4 (9 innings)--Jim Lochner’s RBI single won it in the ninth for host Pacifica (1-1).
Laguna Hills 13, Sunny Hills 7--Freshman Brett Nista had a single, double, and triple for host Laguna Hills (1-1).
Anaheim 7, Huntington Beach 6--Anaheim (1-1) used a six-run third inning to come back from a 5-0 deficit, then won it on Jeff Kafoury’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly.
In the Newport Elks championship-round games:
Mater Dei 10, Mission Viejo 4--Cale Carter and Taylor Ivey each hit two-run homers for Mater Dei (2-0).
Tustin 20, Santa Ana 1--Ben Munoz hit a grand slam for host Tustin (2-0). Santa Ana is 1-1.
Esperanza 7, Trabuco Hills 6--Host Esperanza (2-0) rallied from a 6-4 deficit with three runs in the seventh.
In the consolation round:
Newport Harbor 5, Santa Ana Valley 4--Brian Rogers hit a three-run home run, Aaron McKown hit a solo home and Chris Carden (1-0) pitched a four-hitter for host Newport Harbor (1-1).
Estancia 3, Corona del Mar 2 (10 innings)--Cody French hit a bases-empty home run on a three-two pitch with two outs in the 10th inning for host Estancia (1-1).
Foothill 7, Costa Mesa 5--Travis Ristig and Mike Urbanski each went three for three with two RBIs for host Foothill.
Saddleback 5, Orange 1--Ralph Lopez had three hits and two RBIs and Alfonso Valverde had two hits and two RBIs for visiting Saddleback (1-1).
In nonleague games:
Orange Lutheran 16, Riverside Notre Dame 0--Chris Campbell had a double and triple and four RBIs and Matt Hendrin (1-0) had 12 strikeouts and pitched a three-hitter for host Orange Lutheran (1-0).
