Commerce Secretary Robert A. Mosbacher declared the Persian Gulf region “open for business” as he INAUGURATED AN INFORMATION CLEARINGHOUSE to help U.S. firms obtain reconstruction contracts in Kuwait. At ceremonies launching the department’s Gulf Reconstruction Center, Mosbacher emphasized that actual reconstruction will be done by private companies, not the U.S. government. “The Gulf Reconstruction Center is an information gateway, a starting point for American businesses interested in Gulf reconstruction,” Mosbacher said.
