Grammys, Prayer, Women and Dylan

In “Quincy Jones, Prayers for Peace Prevail at Grammys” (A1, Feb. 21), Robert Hilburn accurately reported that many Grammy winners mentioned prayers for world peace and for the care of the Earth. But what he neglected to report were the many references to God or higher power. I counted at least 10 winners who said words such as “I wish to thank God,” including Mariah Carey (twice) and Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler, who said the band was “totally higher-powered.”
The winning song, “From a Distance,” was about God, and Bob Dylan’s acceptance speech for his Lifetime Achievement Award was a tribute to his loving God.
If there is a spiritual awakening happening in this country, as some say there is, I would like to see that reported, without waiting for a small article buried on Saturday’s religion page.
