San Diego
A woman died after she drove her car across a center divider in Southeast San Diego and struck another car head-on, police said Thursday.
Claretha Blakely, 59, died at the hospital an hour after the 6:30 p.m. accident, which occurred Wednesday during heavy rain in the 3900 block of Market Street, Sgt. Michael Healey said.
Blakely was heading east when her Oldsmobile Cutlass crossed over an island into the westbound lanes and collided with a compact car carrying two women, Healey said.
One of the women had to be resuscitated before being taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, Healey said. Her passenger was taken to the same hospital. The names and conditions of the women were not available.
