Corona del Mar 39, South Pasadena 36--Senior forward Jon Upham led all scorers with 16 points for the Sea Kings (13-12) in a defensive battle.
“Our record is deceiving,” Corona del Mar Coach Paul Orris said. “Almost every (nonleague) team we played this season finished first in their league. Playing that kind of schedule helps us when it’s tournament time.”
The Sea Kings and the Tigers were tied, 29-29, going into the fourth quarter. Junior forward Doug Hesse grabbed three defensive rebounds in a row and scored five of his 10 points to clinch the game for Corona del Mar.
Junior forward Matt Minehan had 12 points for South Pasadena (19-7).
