Gahr 77, Canyon 75--Abdi Barkhordar, Eric Oliver and Kevin Wilborn helped Canyon High win 45 games in three years but the Comanches fell on Tuesday to third-seeded Gahr. However, Canyon’s three top seniors had a fine finale, bringing the Comanches back from a 12-point deficit to a near upset:
--Two free throws by Wilborn (20 points) with 2:41 left gave Canyon (15-10) its first lead of the second half, 70-69.
--Point guard Barkhordar, who led Canyon with 29 points, hit a leaning jumper in the lane with 1:06 left for another Comanche lead, at 72-71.
--And Oliver (11 points), Canyon’s off-guard, sunk a three-pointer from the corner to cut Gahr’s lead to one, 76-75, with 11 seconds left.
But it was Canyon’s preoccupation with Gahr guard Brandon Titus (30 points) that helped Gahr (24-4) win.
With Titus tightly covered, Gahr’s Raymond James scored 10 of his 13 points in the final period. James’ step-back three-pointer gave Gahr the lead for good at 74-72 with 48 seconds left.
