With his cheap shot against Fernando Valenzuela, reader Derek Spark (Viewpoint, Feb. 9) embarrasses himself by so openly displaying his narrow vision, ignorance or both.

Every good thing about sports is personified by the man who wears No. 34 for the Dodgers. Don’t trust me, ask Lasorda.

Notice how some players beg off when the game is on the line? But Fernando has one idea: “Give me the ball.”
