California IN BRIEF : MILPITAS : Jail Guard Targeted in Assault Probe

State and county authorities are investigating allegations that a Santa Clara County jail guard assaulted three prisoners during a tirade he led against four dozen inmates. Elmwood Correctional Facility officials had no comment on the Jan. 21 incident that was reported by four prisoners. But state Department of Corrections Director Frank Hall said he has asked the Santa Clara County district attorney’s office to investigate for possible prosecution of the guard, whose name was not released. The district attorney’s office is already looking into allegations of jail brutality.
