Former San Francisco Police Chief Frank Jordan began his run for mayor with a blistering attack on his ex-boss, accusing Mayor Art Agnos of encouraging rowdiness and anarchy in the city’s response to sporadic violence during recent anti-war protests. In a city considered one of the most liberal in the country, Jordan came off as a tough, law-and-order candidate for mayor. “When you make light of the closure of the Bay Bridge, the primary artery in and out of San Francisco, by classifying it as an ‘inconvenience,’ you invite what followed . . . ,†Jordan told supporters at a fund-raiser, referring to Agnos’ call for peaceful demonstrations after protesters shut down the bridge. Agnos spokesman Scott Shafer said he hoped Jordan would be more “dignified†in the future.
