OAK PARK : Council Seeks $3,000 for Cityhood Study
The Oak Park Municipal Advisory Council will ask the county for more than $3,000 to study whether the unincorporated area can support itself as an independent city.
The council would hire a private consultant to determine whether the area’s tax revenues can generate enough funds to operate city services.
“It’s going to at least give us a direction. I think it’s the next logical step to take,†council member John Kruer said.
Oak Park officials wanted to cut off Simi Valley’s plans to annex entertainer Bob Hope’s Jordan Ranch, where the development of 750 houses is planned.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, only one member of the five-member council, Kent Behringer, voted against requesting funds from the county. “I don’t think it’s feasible,†he said.
