Hit-Run Driver Kills Man Crossing Street
A transient was killed Saturday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver as he crossed the street downtown, police said.
Theodore Lamont Steele, 28, was found by police in a bed of ice plant in the 700 block of Kettner Boulevard. Officers said Steele probably walked or crawled to the side of the road after being struck.
Steele was transported to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the investigation is continuing.
