Council to Consider Residents’ Request to Rename Street for Former Mayor
MONTEREY PARK — Two weeks after the death of former Mayor Kenneth Gribble, several Monterey Park residents are asking that Ramona Avenue be renamed Kenny Gribble Drive.
The City Council has agreed to look into the possibility of changing the street’s name to honor Gribble, who died of cancer Jan. 6. He was 81. Gribble served on the council from 1966-74, and was a prominent businessman.
Verne Heitman, a Monterey Park resident and member of the Planning Commission, said the change would not be much of an inconvenience, because Ramona Avenue is only three blocks long; it begins at Garvey Avenue and continues south to Graves Avenue.
