Gherkin to Play Reunion Show at Crawford’s
Gherkin Raucous will play a reunion show tonight at Crawford’s in Lakewood, then the band’s three remaining original members will jet to London to “hang out†with Rat Scabies, former leader of the early British punk band, the Damned.
“We might do some recording there. It depends on how things go,†said Gherkin’s guitarist, Warren Fitzgerald, who also plays in the Vandals. “We’re going there basically on a vacation, but something might come of it.â€
Fitzgerald said that he, bassist Dan Wallis and singer Darren McNamee met Scabies last summer, when the English drummer spent some time in Orange County after a final reunion tour by the Damned.
For the Crawford’s reunion show, the three original Gherkin Raucous members will be joined by drummer Josh Freeze, also a member of the Vandals. Playing a humorous blend of punk, funk and heavy metal, Gherkin Raucous had been one of the leading attractions on the Orange County alternative-rock scene before its breakup about a year ago when original drummer Miles Gillett moved back to his native New Zealand.
Johnny Monster & the Nightmares will open the show at Crawford’s, 11529 Carson St. Information: (213) 924-0446.
