Atotal of $35,000 in rewards was approved by Los Angeles city and county officials Tuesday for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the firebombing of a North Hollywood synagogue.

A community room at Aish Hatorah was destroyed by fire on the night of Jan. 9, raising fears of violence among Jewish congregations around the San Fernando Valley and throughout Los Angeles.

County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, in calling for the Board of Supervisors to approve a $10,000 reward, described the arsonists as “mindless vandals, vicious bigots or political fanatics†and “cowards who terrorized the neighborhood and the congregation under the cloak of darkness.â€
