OXNARD : 3 Injured When Van Collides With Train
Three Ojai residents survived a collision with a Southern Pacific freight train Monday when the driver of a late-model van crashed through railroad crossing arms at Colonia Road and Oxnard Boulevard and struck the northbound train at 3 a.m., Oxnard police said.
Eduardo Arellano, 20, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving and held in Ventura County Jail after being treated at Ventura County Medical Center for minor injuries, police said. His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday.
Passengers Noel Rocha, 24, and Rojelio Guzman, 19, were treated and released from St. John’s Regional Medical Center.
Police said Arellano was driving at 60 m.p.h. and skidded 147 feet into the middle of the freight train, which was traveling at 30 m.p.h. The 1990 Ford van was completely destroyed, police said.
