Mexico Phone Rate Hike: Basic home telephone rates are rising by 16.3% starting today, the recently privatized Telefonos de Mexico announced. Customers will get the first 67 local phone calls free, but the company will begin charging 11 cents for each additional call. The company also said national long-distance rates will jump by 37.5% and international long-distance charges will rise by 11.8%.
