Threat of Snow, Freezing Rain Cancels Racing at Turfway Park
From Associated Press
FLORENCE, Ky. — The threat of snow and freezing rain prompted officials at Northern Kentucky’s Turfway Park thoroughbred racing track to cancel Thursday’s card, the scheduled opening of the 1990 holiday meeting.
“Some of our horsmen that were scheduled to compete on the Thursday’s card were coming from (Western Kentucky’s) Ellis Park and (Louisville’s) Churchill Downs,” said Turfway general manager and racing director Gary L. Wilfert.
A winter weather warning began in Southern Kentucky Thursday and was headed for the Greater Cincinnati area, where Turfway is located.
