Families Sought for Visiting Scholars
Families who would like to share their Christmas with visitors from other countries are being sought by the International Student Service of Southern California.
The visitors, who are scholars and mid-career professionals, are attending universities throughout the United States to gain expertise in their fields, which include teaching, engineering, economics, public administration and economics. They will be in Los Angeles for a 10-day seminar on environmental problems in a metropolis, starting today.
The 30 visitors are between the ages of 22 and 40 and are from 17 different countries, including Botswana, Bolivia, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan and Thailand.
The student service, based in Culver City, will be taking them to Disneyland and on other sightseeing trips, said Director Daphne Sturrock. The home visit, from the evening of Dec. 23 to the morning of Dec. 26, is designed for the visitors to experience family holiday activities, Sturrock said. For more information, call (213) 641-5826.
