Molester of 3 Deaf Campers Sentenced
Aformer camp counselor was sentenced Thursday to a year in County Jail for molesting three teen-agers at a Castaic camp for deaf children this summer.
In a plea bargain with prosecutors, Martin Luther Willis, 19, pleaded no contest in August to charges of sodomy, sexual battery and child molestation.
The incidents involved two 16-year-olds and a 13-year-old.
Willis, who is deaf, was arrested Aug. 10 at the Lion’s of California/Nevada Wilderness Camp for Deaf Children.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were called to the camp after a camp official learned about the molestations from a teen-ager there.
Willis had been a counselor at the camp for two weeks.
Had the case gone to trial, Willis could have faced nine years in state prison.
Prosecutors agreed to the plea bargain because of Willis’ age and to prevent the victims from having to testify.
