Panel to Probe Shooting of Homeless Man’s Dog
The West Hollywood Public Safety Commission has appointed a committee to follow up the Sheriff Department’s investigation into the shooting last month of a homeless man’s dog by a sheriff’s deputy.
The commission appointed members Aslan Brooke and Ruth Williams to the committee after 20 animal-rights activists spoke out about the shooting during a commission meeting.
“People were very angry over what they believe was the wrongful death of the dog,†said commission spokeswoman Nancy Greenstein. The committee will investigate the shooting and recommend ways to avoid such incidents.
Activists claim that the deputy overreacted; sheriff’s officials say the dog charged the deputy and that he had no choice but to shoot.
