Former Dodger Sid Bream, who overcame three knee operations to help the Pittsburgh Pirates win the National League East championship, was named winner of the 26th Hutch Award, which goes to a player who overcomes adversity.
After being sidelined for most of the 1989 season, Bream hit .270 and drove in 67 runs in 149 games for the Pirates last season. He signed with the Atlanta Braves as a free agent after the season.
