Lemon Grove
The district attorney’s office has charged a San Diego County sheriff’s deputy with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, battery on a police officer and pulling a gun in the presence of officers on Election Day.
Deputy Jose Raimundo Huizar was arrested Nov. 6 at a Lemon Grove nightclub, the Nite Life East, after on-duty deputies made a routine check of the club about 1:30 a.m. The two deputies said they heard the club’s employees say Huizar was disruptive, spoke briefly to Huizar, and left the bar.
Huizar got in his car, and the deputies later pulled him over in Spring Valley. According to the on-duty deputies, Huizar brandished a handgun in a confrontation with the deputies.
Huizar, a six-year department veteran, was placed on administrative leave from his job at the Lemon Grove substation. He is scheduled to surrender Dec. 19 at his felony arraignment, district attorney spokesman Steve Casey said.
If convicted on all counts, Huizar could be sentenced to three years in prison.
