Taiwan Passes Tough Laws to Curb AIDS

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The Taiwan Parliament passed a tough package of laws Friday to deal with AIDS, including a measure that mandates up to seven years in prison for people who knowingly pass along the deadly virus.
A Parliament spokesman said the laws give health officials power to quarantine carriers of the acquired immune deficiency syndrome virus and force them to receive publicly funded treatment.
