NHL ROUNDUP : Bruins Get Some Revenge on Oilers
Chris Nilan and Don Sweeney scored goals late in the second period and the Boston Bruins held on Thursday night for a 4-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. It was their first meeting in Boston since Edmonton won the Stanley Cup in the Garden last May 24.
The Bruins, who had lost at Edmonton on Oct. 19, 8-1, improved their regular-season record over the Oilers at home to 6-0-1 since 1986.
The Bruins frustrated the Oilers twice while Edmonton pressed a two-man advantage.
Hartford 6, Pittsburgh 4--Ron Francis scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:20 left in regulation as the visiting Whalers handed Pittsburgh its fifth loss in six games.
Detroit 5, Chicago 1--Goaltender Glen Hanlon won for the first time since Feb. 2 and Joe Kocur converted his first penalty shot as the visiting Red Wings won their fourth game in a row.
Vancouver 2, Toronto 1--Trevor Linden scored a power-play goal with 4:03 left to give the Canucks the victory at home.
