Husband to Stand Trial in Wife’s Shooting
WESTMINSTER — A Municipal Court judge Wednesday ordered a Lake Elsinore man to stand trial on charges that he shot his pregnant wife outside her gynecologist’s office in Huntington Beach.
Anthony L. Totten, 32, will be arraigned Dec. 6 in Orange County Superior Court on an attempted murder charge, a court clerk said.
Totten, a tile setter, is accused of shooting Janet Totten, 29, with a .22-caliber rifle after allegedly chasing her to the front of her physician’s office Oct. 30.
At a preliminary hearing, Janet Totten testified that she agreed to give her husband a ride from the parking lot. He was carrying a box that his wife said she believed held a gift for their daughter, 5.
Once inside, he opened the box and showed her a rifle, she testified. She said she pushed the weapon away, got out and began running. She said she never heard the shot that wounded her.
